Before he became one of the NHL’s most trusted defensemen, Josh Morrissey carved out his reputation in the WHL with the Prince Albert Raiders and later the Kelowna Rockets. Scouts praised his hockey IQ and poise under pressure, noting that he was the kind of player who could calm down a game just by making the right play at the right time. Former Rockets GM Bruce Hamilton once said: “Josh was a difference-maker every night. His maturity and ability to handle pressure set him apart.”

World Junior Proof of Pedigree

Morrissey wasn’t just a standout in the WHL — he shone on the world stage. Wearing the Maple Leaf at the World Juniors, he proved he could anchor a blue line against the best young players in the world. His steady, two-way presence gave Canada confidence in tight games and showcased why he would soon be NHL-ready.

Earning Respect in the NHL

Today, as an assistant captain for the Winnipeg Jets, Morrissey has earned a reputation as one of the league’s most complete defensemen. Teammates often highlight his leadership both on and off the ice. As Mark Scheifele put it: “Josh is the guy who always comes prepared. He’s steady, reliable, and he makes everyone around him better.”

The Bigger Picture

Morrissey’s journey is a reminder that greatness isn’t only about highlight reels. It’s about reliability, growth, and proving yourself at every level — from junior hockey, to the World Juniors, to the NHL spotlight.
